Qld: Committal hearing after hostel fire in Brisbane on Jan 2
Bundaberg Magistrates Court has been told a committal hearing for the man accused of
setting the Childers backpacker hostel fire will start in Brisbane on January 2.
ROBERT PAUL LONG, 37, has been charged with arson and with the murders of 27-year-old
West Australian twins KELLY JUNE and STACEY LOUISE SLARKE.
They were among 15 backpackers who died in the blaze in the Palace backbackers hostel
on June 23 this year.
LONG has also been charged with unlawfully wounding and attempting to kill a police
officer during his arrest in the nearby town of Howard after a five-day manhunt.
The committal hearing in the Brisbane Magistrates Court is expected to last up to two weeks.
