NSW: Bathroom heaters recalled due to fire risk

SYDNEY, Aug 17 AAP - Several bathroom heater models are being recalled following reports
they can be a fire hazard, the NSW government says.

Brands manufactured by Chief Kitchenware and sold around Australia, including Mistral,
Plugz, Vogue Design and RingGrip, have been reported to have caused fires in Queensland,
South Australia and Tasmania.

The heat lamp holders on the recalled 3-in-1 heat, light and fan units can become overheated
and catch alight.

NSW's acting Fair Trading Minister Linda Burney said owners of the listed models should
stop using the heat lamps.

"Consumers are advised to unscrew and remove the heat lamps and store safely," she
said in a statement.

"Chief Kitchenware has advised Fair Trading there is no risk of an electrical shock
and it is safe to continue using the light and exhaust fan without the heat lamp."

Chief Kitchenware recalled some Airflow, P&R and Lanson models in 2007 and extended
the recall list in 2008.

Consumers should contact Chief Kitchenware on 1800 677 845 to have their bathroom heaters
repaired for free.

The recalled products include Mistral M6600-0, M6601-0, M6700-0, M6700 DUCT, M6705-0,
M6740-0, M6715 AUTOHEAT, Plugz P3N1-2, P6601-0, Vogue Design VD2N1/2, VD3N1/DUCT and RingGrip
6600-0, 6700-0, 6601-0.
